Senior Key Account Manager – Colombo

Job Description: Senior Key Account Manager – Colombo

We are currently seeking an experienced Senior Key Account Manager to join our commercial team based in Colombo. This is a strategic client-facing role that requires someone who can take full ownership of managing key business accounts, maintaining strong client relationships, and driving mutual growth through practical account planning and execution.

If you are a reliable professional with proven experience in B2B sales or key account management—and if you value results, structure, and accountability—this role offers a solid opportunity to lead critical accounts and contribute meaningfully to business performance.

Position Summary:

The Senior Key Account Manager is responsible for managing a portfolio of high-value clients, ensuring retention, satisfaction, and long-term growth. This includes developing clear account plans, coordinating internal resources, and aligning client needs with business offerings.

You will serve as the main point of contact for senior stakeholders in client organizations. Your job is not to sell for the sake of it, but to understand client priorities, ensure delivery of agreed value, and drive sustainable revenue through trust-based relationships.

This role reports directly to the Head of Sales and works closely with operations, finance, and marketing teams to ensure a seamless client experience.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage a defined set of key accounts, ensuring timely communication, consistent service delivery, and strong client retention.
  • Develop and execute detailed account plans for each assigned client, aligned with the company’s goals and client objectives.
  • Maintain ongoing client contact through meetings, calls, and regular reporting, focusing on both current service and future opportunities.
  • Lead commercial negotiations, including pricing, contract renewals, and service upgrades with input from relevant departments.
  • Resolve client concerns in a timely, professional, and structured manner, coordinating with internal teams as needed.
  • Monitor account performance using KPIs and metrics to track sales, delivery, and customer satisfaction.
  • Identify upselling or cross-selling opportunities based on client needs, not targets alone.
  • Prepare accurate sales forecasts, revenue reports, and pipeline tracking documentation.
  • Serve as the client’s internal advocate, helping other departments understand client expectations and business context.
  • Support the implementation of new products, services, or contract terms within your client base.
  • Ensure accurate and timely documentation of all client interactions, proposals, agreements, and feedback.
  • Stay informed of market trends, competitor offerings, and industry changes that may affect client expectations or strategic direction.
  • Mentor junior account managers or team members, where applicable.

Required Qualifications:

  • A degree in Business, Marketing, Management, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in key account management, corporate sales, or business development.
  • Proven track record of managing B2B accounts with annual revenue responsibilities.
  • Strong communication skills in both English and Sinhala, with the ability to engage confidently with senior decision-makers.
  • Sound understanding of commercial terms, margin analysis, and pricing strategy.
  • Competency in using CRM platforms, Excel, and other relevant reporting tools.
  • Ability to present data and proposals clearly and concisely in meetings and written formats.
  • Experience in preparing client proposals, RFQs, or commercial agreements.

Preferred Attributes:

  • Experience managing accounts in the FMCG, logistics, telecom, or services sector.
  • Familiarity with long sales cycles and complex decision-making processes.
  • Comfortable handling data-driven reporting and performance metrics.
  • Strong interpersonal awareness and the ability to adjust your communication style depending on the audience.
  • A practical, no-nonsense approach to problem-solving.
  • Self-discipline, follow-through, and a sense of ownership over assigned accounts.
  • Ability to maintain composure and professionalism under pressure or in tense client situations.

Work Conditions:

  • This is a full-time, Colombo-based role with regular travel to client locations as required.
  • Office hours are Monday to Friday, with flexibility depending on client needs or deadlines.
  • The role involves a mix of office work, in-person client meetings, and occasional offsite reviews.
  • Tools including a laptop, mobile phone, and company CRM system will be provided.
  • The role may occasionally require evening or weekend availability for client-critical matters or major presentations.

What We Expect From You:

  • Reliable performance and clear communication—internally and externally.
  • Ability to take responsibility for client accounts and not pass issues down the line.
  • Structured follow-up, consistent updates, and timely execution of commitments.
  • Willingness to push for clarity, manage expectations, and keep promises realistic.
  • Transparency in reporting account challenges, risks, or underperformance.
  • A long-term approach to building relationships—not just chasing short-term wins.

What You Can Expect From Us:

  • A stable, structured work environment where expectations are clear and results are recognized.
  • Access to the tools, resources, and support needed to manage your accounts professionally.
  • Respect for your time and expertise—your voice will be heard when shaping strategy or resolving issues.
  • Competitive compensation, with performance-based incentives tied to account outcomes—not empty targets.
  • A leadership team that values professional maturity and practical contributions over flashy metrics.
  • Opportunities to grow your role as the business expands, including possible regional or strategic client portfolios.

Who Should Apply:

This role is ideal for someone who:

  • Has built and managed long-term client relationships in a professional setting.
  • Understands the difference between activity and impact in client management.
  • Prefers structure, process, and clarity over improvisation or micromanagement.
  • Is based in Colombo or willing to be based here and ready to take full ownership of a portfolio.
  • Is currently working in corporate sales, account management, or B2B client servicing and looking for a more senior, accountable role.
  • Values direct communication, clear performance metrics, and a work environment where results speak for themselves.

Whether you come from a multinational, local firm, or mid-sized operation—if you have real experience managing demanding accounts and can back it with practical action—you should consider applying.

Application Process:

If this role aligns with your experience and goals, please submit the following documents:

  • Updated CV (PDF or Word format)
  • A brief cover letter outlining why you believe you’re suited for this role
  • Details of two professional references
  • Your current and expected remuneration
  • Your availability for interviews or joining

Applications must be sent to the Human Resources Department using the email listed in the job advertisement. Shortlisted applicants will be invited for a two-stage interview process, which may include a case-based discussion or role-play exercise relevant to key account management.

We value transparency, and all communication will be handled professionally and confidentially.

Final Word:

The role of a Senior Key Account Manager isn’t about just “managing relationships.” It’s about clarity, ownership, and meaningful collaboration with clients to drive outcomes that work for both sides. If you take pride in delivering on commitments, navigating commercial challenges, and building trust through actions rather than words, this role may be exactly what you’re looking for.

We’re not looking for sales slogans—we’re looking for people who can deliver value and maintain credibility with clients over the long run. If that’s how you work, we look forward to hearing from you.
