Job Description: Data Analyst – Colombo
We are currently seeking a Data Analyst to join our Colombo-based team. This position is designed for a results-oriented individual who can extract, clean, interpret, and present data in a clear and practical way. The right candidate will have a solid understanding of databases, analytical tools, and reporting systems, and will be comfortable working independently to deliver data-driven insights that support business operations and strategic decisions.
The role is not about “big data jargon” or superficial dashboards. We are looking for someone who understands business needs, asks the right questions, and works methodically to deliver answers that decision-makers can use.
Position Summary:
As a Data Analyst, your core responsibility will be to gather and analyze datasets from various sources and deliver structured insights that help drive key business decisions. You will be expected to work across departments, understanding their requirements and translating them into analytical tasks. Your role will support teams such as marketing, finance, sales, logistics, and senior management.
This position requires both technical skills and business awareness. It is not just about writing SQL queries—it’s about understanding the ‘why’ behind the data and communicating the results clearly. You will report to the Business Insights Manager and occasionally collaborate with external consultants or vendors.
Key Responsibilities:
- Data Collection & Extraction
- Pull relevant data from internal systems, databases, and third-party platforms.
- Validate and clean raw data to ensure accuracy and reliability.
- Organize and structure datasets for easier access and repeat use.
- Analysis & Interpretation
- Analyze operational and performance data using tools like Excel, SQL, Python, or BI software.
- Identify trends, outliers, and opportunities for improvement.
- Provide plain-language summaries of what the data shows—and what it does not.
- Reporting & Presentation
- Create clear and consistent reports and dashboards for different business units.
- Translate complex findings into visuals, tables, or presentations that are easy to understand.
- Tailor reporting formats depending on the audience—senior leadership, operational staff, or partners.
- Process Improvement Support
- Recommend adjustments to workflows, campaigns, or business rules based on analytical insights.
- Work with operational teams to define and monitor KPIs.
- Help identify bottlenecks or underperformance through regular review of data.
- Data Governance & Security
- Follow internal policies on data privacy, classification, and access.
- Maintain proper documentation for data sources, queries, and reporting logic.
- Flag inconsistencies or integrity issues when they arise.
- Collaboration & Communication
- Meet regularly with team leaders and department heads to understand data needs.
- Respond to ad-hoc requests without losing focus on core priorities.
- Serve as a bridge between technical tools and business objectives.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Statistics, Computer Science, Mathematics, Economics, or a related field.
- At least 2 years of experience in a data analysis or reporting role.
- Proficient in SQL and one or more data analysis tools (Excel, Power BI, Python, or R).
- Familiarity with databases such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, or similar platforms.
- Comfortable preparing detailed reports, charts, and written explanations.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
Preferred Attributes:
- Working knowledge of Google Analytics, CRM software, or ERP systems.
- Experience with automating reports or setting up alerts based on KPI triggers.
- An eye for detail without getting stuck in unnecessary complexity.
- Ability to prioritize and balance multiple data requests.
- Comfortable working with confidential information and maintaining discretion.
- Willingness to learn from mistakes and correct them without excuses.
Work Conditions:
- Based at our Colombo office; hybrid work arrangement may be available after the probationary period.
- Standard working hours are Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM – 5:30 PM.
- Occasional overtime during monthly reporting cycles or major projects.
- Access to modern workstations and up-to-date analytical tools.
- Collaborative environment with opportunities to work across multiple departments.
What We Expect From You:
- Responsibility
You are responsible for the accuracy and clarity of the data you share. Mistakes will happen, but repeated carelessness won’t be tolerated. - Clarity Over Flash
We don’t want complicated dashboards that no one can understand. We want clarity that helps people act. - Consistency
Your work should be reliable—week after week, month after month. We value discipline over occasional brilliance. - Curiosity
Ask questions about the data. Understand where it comes from and what it affects. - Integrity
Data is powerful—don’t manipulate it to tell the story someone wants. Tell the story the data supports.
What You Can Expect From Us:
- Structured Workload
Clear responsibilities and deadlines. We do not overload analysts with vague, open-ended tasks. - Constructive Feedback
You’ll receive regular feedback—not just on mistakes, but on how to improve methods and presentations. - Fair Compensation
Market-aligned salary with performance-based increments. - Tools & Training
Access to licensed software, internal knowledge sharing, and support for continuous learning. - Room To Grow
Analysts who demonstrate consistency and insight have opportunities to grow into senior analytical or strategic roles. - Respect For Your Work
Your contributions will shape business decisions—not get buried under executive intuition.
Who Should Apply:
- Data professionals looking for a practical, no-frills work environment.
- Analysts who value clarity, independence, and accountability.
- Early to mid-career candidates who want to expand their skill set across different domains.
- Professionals tired of roles with lots of jargon but little practical impact.
- Individuals who prefer to work in a culture that values precision and substance over appearance.
Application Process:
- Submit Your CV
